This class focuses on teaching students how to create the Byzantine chain maille weave. The Byzantine weave is a classic and versatile jewelry weave that has lots of design potential.
Students will learn the weave by creating a bracelet in anodized and bright aluminum. Once learned, this skill can be applied to precious metals, like sterling silver. A full color handout, detailing the steps required to complete the weave, will be distributed in class. The class includes an introductory presentation covering basic chain maille concepts, techniques, and tools.
Two pairs of smooth-jawed pliers are needed to make chain maille. Pliers will be available for use in class. Flat nose pliers are preferred by the instructor, but chain nose or bent chain nose pliers can also be used. If you have a favorite pair, feel free to bring them to class. Bracelet kits will be provided by the instructor (a limited color selection will be available, so early arrivals will have a wider choice).
This class is intended for beginning chain maille students with no prior chain maille experience.
