In April 2019 we informed the BCAE (Banking, Credit & Asset Experts) community that we had terminated the former Executive Director and Controller due to fiscal irregularities and the discovery of fraud following a financial audit. Today, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office announced indictments of those former employees, charging them with several financial crimes.
These charges support our belief that these former employees used BCAE charitable resources illegally, misleading many people, thus violating the trust instilled in them. In misappropriating BCAE resources for their own personal benefit, they victimized the entire BCAE community. Upon discovery last year, the Board reported the matter to the DA’s Office and has cooperated since. We thank the DA’s Office and the State Police for their efforts in this investigation.
Working together we have made great strides in responding to the wide-ranging impact of this fraudulent activity. We appreciate the patience, dedication and support of our staff, instructor and student community as we addressed the issues stemming from this difficult situation. We have made important adjustments to our financial operations, implemented new policies and procedures and received guidance on best practices in non-profit management and governance. Our Interim Executive Director, Susan Getman, is strengthening our internal operations and supporting the Board of Directors in moving forward with our mission.
